The Muslim Community Co-operative (Australia) Ltd, better known as MCCA, specialises in home mortgages conforming to both Australian consumer financing regulation and the precepts of Shariah. It is the first and largest provider of Islamic financing solutions for consumers in Australia and has been in existence for almost two decades. It is also the largest Muslim community organization in Australian with almost 10,000 members.
It was established essentially to help Australian Muslim community obtain finance and avoid dealing in interest at the same time. It provides an alternative to the conventional system and help Muslims realise the great Aussie dream of owning their own home in accordance with their religious beliefs.
MCCA is the collective effort of Muslim community leaders, accountants, bankers and Islamic scholars over the past decade to develop financial solutions that meet the religious requirements of practicing Muslims within a conventional framework.
There is a huge demand for Islamic banking both her e in Australia and globally, due to the total potential size of the Muslim market (locally estimated at almost half-a-million and worldwide at 1.2 billion) and also due to Muslims now re-discovering their Islamic values. Islamic banking is the fastest growing sector in the banking world today, yet it is a young industry and a growth industry. It is an industry that is still evolving, developing and growing. MCCA envisages developing into a retail Islamic bank within the decade.
